Box House

Photos by Peter Baiamonte

A house for a couple in their 40’s. Eric is an artist and museum preparator with a fondness for Victorian England, and Jill works in finance and kept a close eye on their limited budget. In the interest of economy, the house is a simple box of 2,100 square feet, with a roof of two sloping planes that meet at a diagonal valley.

Contributing to the small size of the house are dual uses for some spaces. The guest room has a Murphy bed and is Jill’s study most of the time, while the garage serves as Eric’s workshop and they park their car under the overhanging deck.
