Freedman House, Alford, Massachusetts

Located just down the road from a group of barns we had long admired, our new site was the inevitable testing ground for creating a house with the scale and feel of this perfect farm courtyard. The main house, the garage, the guest house, and the little pool building all create the walls that define the perimeter of the 60' x 60' courtyard. The entry to the house is through a narrow opening between the main house and the guest house. Once through the gap, a visitor is in the courtyard, with a view out to the hills straight ahead.
